About

While many poetry podcasts are concerned with the things poets wrestle with, O, Word? and e·pon·y·mous interview poets about the world that surrounds their work — the craft choices they gravitate towards, the thematic concerns that pop up across their work, and the interests that keep them returning to the page again and again.

What is O, Word?

O, Word? is a growing literary podcast and passion project by award-winning poet DeeSoul Carson, started as a way to talk with poets about the interests and concerns that drive poets to write.

The main episodes of O, Word? are interviews that focus on a particular craft device or thematic concern that are of specific interest to the interviewed poets. The e·pon·y·mous episodes interview poets about their collections, starting with the title poem and branching into conversations about the context surrounding the collection and what led the poet to the project. The guests also offer readings for their work, suggestions for further reading, and prompts for exercising your writing muscle.

O, Word? is and plans to remain free to listen to by anyone interested. You can support the podcast by participating in the comments section, subscribing to the publication (which includes a monthly round-up of DeeSoul’s reads), following the podcast on Instagram, and spreading the word!

e·pon·y·mous, in collaboration with Honey Literary, also publishes reviews of collections a week ahead of conversations on the podcast. You read the most recent reviews here.

Why listen?

Mostly because DeeSoul would reallllllllly appreciate having someone to talk to. The void is nice, but it doesn’t (usually) speak back. Plus, hopefully he’ll put you on to something you like!

This is a poetry podcast for writers interested in how their contemporaries think about the work they offer to the world. This is a podcast for creatives interested in how artists arrive at the projects they pursue. This is a podcast for YOU, and we hope that it leads you down new paths for discovery!

O, Word? is independently produced and edited by DeeSoul Carson. Your support means the world to him.

Launch & Upcoming Seasons

O, Word? launched with its first episode in October 2025. As of now, the podcast has two seasons in a given calendar year, Spring and Fall. DeeSoul takes a break from releasing episodes in the Summer and Winter to focus on producing episodes for the upcoming season. During active seasons, new episodes release every other week (God-willing).

O, Word? is on a summer break for Summer 2026, but worry not! All existing episodes can be accessed on this website or wherever you get your podcasts.

You can look forward to episodes with these great writers in Fall 2026:
